This light is defined by it's function which is the ability to move the arm either left or right and in some cases up and down or even both. Typically, a swing arm wall sconce can either be plugged into the wall as an alternative to a table lamp or it can be hardwired straight into an electrical box. Usually, it will come with a pipe cover to cover the cord on the wall. If you want to hardwire the fixture your electrician will cut the cord and remove the pipe cover then they'll install it into the electrical box. Most lights will come with a little knob to cover the hole that the cord wither through on the back plate.
